apple had never really been a big fan of chipotle. then again, she wasn't really used to eating the food. she spent most of the time behind the counter, serving the food. working at chipotle was definitely not her dream career, nor was it her main job at the moment. she spent most of her time working the front desk at shangri la hotel. on the weeks when she needed the extra cash, she took up a few hours waitressing at whatever place would take her. chipotle was her third job. she rarely worked there, but on the nights she did it was usually because they were lacking a staff member or something of the sort. normally at that point in time, they would give her a call and she would have to go in on very little notice. normally, it wasn't much of a problem, but today she was lacking a sitter for winter and was forced to bring her in as well. apple had strategically placed winter at the table nearest to the counter, so she could keep an eye on her but still work. she would've canceled completely, but she needed the extra money. winter was normally very well behaved and she had come to work with apple before, so she figured today wouldn't be any different. she had brought along coloring books and laid them out upon the table in front of winter, also placing crayons in front of her. winnie had always loved coloring and it kept her busy enough to where she'd leave just about everything else alone. "you gotta stay here, alright winnie? momma's gotta work for a little bit, but you've got your crayons here and you can color." apple said, kneeling next to the chair, pressing a kiss to her forehead before heading back behind the counter to work.
just as she expected, winnie was very intrigued with the coloring and barely looked away from the coloring book. for some reason, it always kept her extremely occupied. apple, herself, was rather occupied with the stream of customers that flew in around dinner time. there was always a rush at this time, and it was always extremely tiring. thankfully, winnie remained occupied even after two hours of sitting there. apple couldn't remember ever being such a patient child, but winnie always seemed to know when apple really needed her to be on her best behavior. apple knew it was a short shift today though, as the restaurant would close in an hour or so. if any child could handle the wait it was definitely winnie. after the first two hours and the dinner rush, apple was exhausted. after all, she had gotten up rather early for her morning shift at shangri la hotel. "i'm taking my break," she called to one of the other workers once the flow of customers had slowed down. she headed over to the table where winnie was, taking the seat next to her. "momma, momma!" winnie giggled and pointed at her. "you're doing great," she said, picking winnie up and placing her in her lap. she hugged her lightly to herself, resting her chin on winnie's head. "only a little bit longer and we can go home." she said.
after a few moments of sitting there, apple glanced over at the other tables. it didn't take long for her to recognize the girl sitting at one of the other tables. "hey audri," she said, looking in the direction of the familiar face. she had met audriana a few times and weirdly enough, apple actually got along with her. originally app wasn't quite fond of the girl, in fact she just figured her to be the type that she wouldn't be friends with. audriana was quite the opposite of her. she had everything she wanted, she could do whatever she wanted and she just didn't seem like the normal person apple would befriend, but after having a few conversations with her, she changed her mind and decided she was actually rather nice. "funny seeing you here." apple added, making an attempt at conversation. winnie pointed at audriana from where they were sitting. "that's audwee, momma, that's audwee!" she exclaimed, giggling slightly. apple chuckled and looked down at winnie, "yeah, that's right. that's audri." she said, ruffling winnie's hair.
