Kolby’s white Subaru was parked near the pier on this warm sunny day. Kolby stood next to the open passenger door reaching in for his new little friend. The Hyacinth Macaw stood up on his arm and made his way to his way to the tattooed man’s shoulder whistling his whole way up his arm. The bird actually seemed to be whistling a song as Kolby laughed and shut the car door. Turning and walking towards the pier Kolby walked slowly almost having a conversation with the deep blue feathered macaw. As the pair walked past some tourists the bird said his hello to them. Many took pictures of the bird and Kolby amazed by the bird. A rare huge macaw with a wingspan of easy four feet. The blue bird was the largest species of parrot in the world. This little character was huge and definitely shared Kolby’s personality.
Stopping to talk to some tourists that were talking pictures and talking to the bird. The bird introduced them both as Kolby didn’t get much chance to speak. Everyone they came in contact with seemed to get a good mouthful of words from the full of personality bird. Kolby barely saying many words. One couple seemed so interested Kolby brought the large bird onto his hand and smiled, asking the bird for a high five, pulling up his other hand. The bird followed by stretching out a deep blue wing, the deep almost black feathers on the underside of the bird’s wings pressed up against Kolby’s hand lightly. The bird’s large beak looked like it could easy chop off Kolby’s finger and well it could. Not only the largest parrot, but the strongest. This kind of macaw could easy tear a cheap cage to shreds if he wanted to. It seemed whatever Kolby asked of the bird he would answer with either words of an action. Well trained by his previous owners and well it just seemed to like Kolby to listen so well.
”Can you fly?" Kolby asked the bird for some tourists. To which the bird replied by shaking his head furiously and spreading his huge wingspan open. “Cheeko can’t fly.” The bird replied as he flapped his large wings a couple times. Cheeko was a given name from the previous owners, and well if he knew his name why would anyone change it? Cheeko was already eight years old and still then would probably live longer than Kolby. A pet for life a bird seemed to be, parrots for sure. Kolby seemed amused as they walked down the pier, grabbing attention like each little entertainment stand. People doing magic, painting pictures of people sitting, selling everything you could think of. Kolby didn’t get a lot of change to look into any of the little shops, or buy any food. A rare bird like the one he owned grabbed a lot of attention, well any bird with such a vocabulary would.
You could ask Cheeko how old he was, what kind of bird he was, where he was, pretty much anything and he seemed to know to answer. He was like a child absorbing all the information he could and repeating it for the world. Kolby had already managed to teach the bird some of his friend’s names and words the bird shouldn’t know. Chewy would even listen to the bird in confusion as the bird would tell him to sit. Cheeko had met the red Iguana and had no issues with it either. It was an amazing thing that such a bird could be so much like a human. Crawling from shoulder to shoulder as they spoke to tourists and even some locals. Kolby seemed so amused as he showed off his pet, having his picture taken over and over. The center of attention where he belonged it seemed, the bird just upped his personality some more. Though he had hoped to see someone he knew, not many people knew he had picked up the bird just the other day. It was exciting to him, a new spur of the moment pet that cost him eight thousand dollars.
