-- turn right, into my arms.
The last few days had been a giant brain fart. Well, at least in Toby’s case. It had been almost two months since she had written a new song. Being how she felt her old ones her overplayed, it was time for the creativity to flow. But nothing sounded just the way she wanted. It was starting to make her paranoid. For a moment or two she swore she was losing her ability to compose music, but the feelings quickly passed. Her boring room offered nothing to her lack of muse. So she grabbed her guitar and headed out the door, letting her feet carry her to a new location.
A smile crept over her face when she ended up at the beach. The sun was beginning to set, casting a canvas of colors across the open seas. The temperature was cool, yet humid. There was a nice sea breeze though, and she let the salty air fill her lungs. She spread out a blanket on the sand, pulling out her guitar after she was comfortable. If she couldn’t spring up with some new lyrics and chords here, she was doomed. The atmosphere was so dreamlike, one only pictured in movies. It was times like this she was happy to be alive and well, as corny as that sounded.
Her fingers pricked the strings as she admired the other beach-goers’, striding along the water’s edge. Most of them were accompanied by a friend or lover. A feeling of loneliness passed through Toby. Isn’t that weird? How you can be surrounded by people and feel so deserted?
Toby gasped, she was catching on to something. It was unknown how she would translate it into a song, but it was definitely something. She grabbed her bag, pulling out her notebook and pen. Time to brainstorm some lyrics.

When the lights go out - we'll take control of the wold
It was just one of those days. Nothing happened. Kai had been on duty for the whole day, half of the day he was perched on top of the lifeguard chair, the other half he strolled the beach. The hours went by slowly and everything now smelled vaguely like sunscreen. The day was almost over, though, and Kai stood in front of the supply hut, watching the sun begin to descend. This was the time all the kids were off of the beach and it was now filled with then silent type, those who walked the beach and let their ankles be licked by the ocean.
Kai finished putting away the last stray flotation device and found himself done. He looked over to the chair, which had Lani, his three month golden retriever, sleeping where he should be sitting. He was amazed that she had stayed with him all day, or that she even left the house considering she was afraid of her own shadow. Kai walked over to her and she picked her head up. Suddenly excited, she jumped off of his chair and began to run circles around his legs. "You wanna walk the beach, huh? You're pretty adventurous today," He grabbed the small leash from the chair and tried his best to hook the leash on to the little excited ball of fur. After a bit of struggle, Lani was finally on the leash and started to pull on it, biting it, telling him it was time to go.
Kai followed the puppy around the beach. She would run up to something, sniff it, then jump out of her skin like it was going to eat her and run away shaking. Kai just walked down the beach, trying to see if he could smell anything other than sunscreen. Suddenly, he felt the leash give way, and saw nothing at the end of it but a collar. "Lani?!" He watched the puppy run down the beach, stopping abruptly at a girl sitting on the beach with a guitar. Lani dug her head into the girl's bag and dig around in it, then started to lick the girls arm. He ran up to them. "Lani, come on, stop that..."

-- turn right, into my arms.
But of course, after twenty minutes of thinking up something clever, Toby got nothing.
Every Musician had a different trick when creating new songs. Most, waited until their emotions took over, sometimes due to heartbreak or whatever. Some others, like Toby, just wrote songs when they wanted to. There were too many love songs out there, most of them about the same thing. Toby wasn’t one to be cliché. Well, I mean she dyed her hair bright red. Only because her whole family had the same color locks, it got boring to look at after a while. Anyway, while every other song writer composed songs about love and such, Toby wrote about her friends or her family. Usually it was easy for her. She’d pop a squat on her bed with a pen and paper and boom, fifteen minutes later she had some lyrics. It took another ten to fit some chords to the words, but it still went by quick. And now, she had an urge for some new tunes, she doubted it was going to come. And that really ticked her off.
Grumbling and moaning about your music slump will get you nowhere. She put her frustration behind, enjoying her surroundings. The sun was continuing to make it’s decent, and as the light decreased visitors began to trickle out. Her fingers brushed over the strings once again as she began to hum one of her favorite tunes. Her hums soon turned into words,
”Lights out, I still hear the rain, These images that fill my head, Now keep my fingers from making mistak-“
She jumped, noticing a puppy ruffling through her bag. A chuckle escaped her lips, than realized he was probably destroying her stuff. She pulled the bag closer to her, hoping the puppy would back away. Instead, the animal began licking her arm. ”Hey sweetie,” she smiled, placing her guitar aside. The thought that the dog actually belonged to someone didn’t cross her mind, until she looked up. The man standing in front of her was pretty good looking, well actually very good looking. He had a killer body. She guessed he was around his age. ”Your dog is adorable,” she said, flashing him a smile. words: three hundred and seventy-two outfit: click!song: jasey ray (acoustic version) – all time low notes: dsgfdjklgjds, I’m beginning to have a brain fart. When the lights go out - we'll take control of the wold
"Your dog is adorable," the girl told Kai. He smiled as he looked at her. The most noticeable thing was her bright, vibrant hair. Her large brown eyes looked up at him, and there was a familiar tint in her eyes. He knew her from somewhere, he just couldn't place it. Had he seen her on the beach before? Sure, it was possible, but she seemed more familiar than that...
Kai bent down on one knee and took hold of Lani, she was still wiggling around, she was hard to keep a hold of. He fastened the collar a bit tighter than before, but still held her in his arms. Kai did something brave. Normally he would just nod and walk along when a situation with a girl comes along. But Kai just sat down next to the girl, Lani stopped struggling and nuzzled into the crook of his elbow.
"Thanks, she is pretty cute, but a handful. Only three months. But I'm surprised she likes you so much. This girl is afraid of her own shadow," He smiled. "And, sorry if she got anything in your bag." Kai looked at her, trying to get a name to her face. He started to run through the places where he saw people regularly, the mall, school... Was she a girl that Rip would hang out with? She didn't look that familiar though.
The girl's fingers were touching a guitar, then it hit him. Kai went to school with the girl. She was a senior too. Her name was something interesting.... like a month. "We go to school together, right? Your name is something like... September..." He trailed off. He was now a bit embarrassed that he couldn't remember her name, he just should have stuck with the 'you look vaguely familiar but I don't know you' story. he hoped that he didn't sound rude in anyway. "I'm Kai."

-- turn right, into my arms.
Toby wasn’t drawn back when he sat next to her. She was actually please someone decided to join her. Her smile grew bigger, if that was even possible.
The puppy was unbelievably adorable and she almost envied Kai. “I’m so jealous, I’ve always wanted a dog.”
It was true. Toby had lived on her parent’s farm since she was born. She practically had every farm animal known to man, except for a dog. Her sister, June, had this irrational fear of dogs. A stray dog had attacked her when she little. She ended up needing a load of shots in various places to prevent rabies. What really pissed Toby off was the fact that her parents still did not adopt a dog when her sister had moved out. They urged Toby to put all her effort into caring for her horse, Jack. A thousand pound horse can’t crawl into bed with you. Toby rolled her eyes, her face still held a small smile. ”My names’ October,” she muffled. When Toby was in elementary school, everyone seemed to joke about her name. She thought it was pretty clever, naming your daughter after the month she was born in. The other kids at school didn’t think so. They always tortured her, calling her September or November instead of October. But her Mom constantly reminded her how ‘special’ her name was. ‘Yeah, Mom, it’s your fault they harass me’ she would think. She nodded, confirming that she did in fact go to his school. “Yeah, I’ve been going to saint monica for a while,” she said, recalling when she had moved with her Aunt. She loved living in California, even if she missed her family back in Oregon. But honestly, living in Cali was a lot more exciting then back at home. words: two hundred and ninety-nine. outfit: click!song: ice cream truck – cazwell (my new ringtone!) notes: sorry, it’s kind of a lame post.
