OVERALL HISTORY the day brynne golightly and carter buchanan met was not your average love at first sight story. in fact, the two weren't even old enough to remember this glorious event. on december twenty-sixth, a two year old carter buchanan visited the hospital with his mother to see lorraine and her new born daughter brynne golightly. i suppose you could have called it love at first site, since the two were practically inseparable for quite some time after that. despite the two year age difference, they were forced together as children. carter had not only been the son of her mother's best friend, but he was also the best friend of her brother, benjamin. they had become best friends almost instantly but that had turned into something much more than that as they grew a little older. when brynne was five years old and carter was seven, he asked her to be his girlfriend on the playground. shortly after that, they shared their first kiss. it didn't take long for the two to become even more inseparable.
they spent most every day together and remained together all throughout middle school. of course they had their fights and broke up quite a few times, but they always got back together within a week or two. when high school rolled around for the two, they were getting mixed in with the parties and the drinking. at this time, they also decided to take their relationship to the next level and have sex. after quite a bit of that and a little too much to drink, brynne found herself pregnant the summer before sophomore year. carter, of course, was the first to know. in fact, he had even bought the test and sat with her while she waited for the results. he was very supportive of the whole thing. each of their parents however, were not so supportive of this, but there wasn't really much they could do. brynne had decided, before she even knew for sure, that she was going to keep the child. she had spent most her life with carter and she had planned on spending the rest of it with him anyways, so why not have his child? she may not have been all that great with kids but she did want them. besides, there were no other options, not in her book anyways.
carter remained fully supportive of the situation. he had even offered to marry her if that's what she wanted, but brynne knew that neither of them were ready for that. brynne continued to attend school until it became too hard. by that time, her mother had hired her a private tutor, and she continued schooling. on march fourteenth at eleven at night, brynne's water broke. she was quickly rushed to the hospital and after quite a few hours of labor, holden harlow golightly was finally born at 3:42 a.m. on march fifteenth. with a beautiful newborn baby daughter in the world, brynne moved in with carter and his family. there, the new family was able to stay close and help each other out.
holden spent the first two and a half years of her life living in the buchanan penthouse. brynne returned to school for her junior year. carter, whom had just graduated had moved to boston to attend harvard, with blessings from brynne of course. during his time at harvard, brynne took holden to visit him almost every weekend. once brynne had graduated high school, she and holly moved into her own penthouse, which she had every intention of sharing with carter once he was finished with his schooling. those two years, when holden was three and four, that brynne spent alone with holden began their close relationship. brynne still continued to take her to see carter as much as she could, but brynne and holden had bonded with him not around. holden was at the age where she was talking and wanting to do everything that mommy did, and their closeness only grew from there.
when holden was four years old, she began school at a private preschool that brynne had attended at the same age. that was also the year she began learning ballet, joined the local parks and recreation soccer team and began horseback riding lessons. all of these, of course, were holden's ideas. it began to be very evident how much of an over-achiever holden would become. the following year, holden started kindergarten and carter was officially home from college. with his schooling out of the way, he finally asked brynne to marry him. the two married a few months later, and holden was the one to walk brynne down the aisle. their honeymoon landed holden with a little brother.
henry benjamin golightly was born on march twenty-eighth. holden was five years old and to be honest, was terribly jealous of the child. after spending a few weeks with him though, she slowly grew fond of the whole being an older sister thing. she maintained a great relationship with both of her parents and after awhile, began to take care of her little brother. within the first year she was so protective of the little boy and the two were pretty much inseparable. when holden turned six, she started the first grade. this was where she met the son of one of her mother's friends, lucas armstrong. at first the outgoing little girl was a little shy with him. she didn't really understand his intentions but both brynne and the boy's father knew very well that their children were rather infatuated with each other.
after quite a few long talks with her mother about boys and watching several classic chick flicks, holden became quite the little romantic. this was when she realized that she and lucas were more than just friends. lucas finally asked her to be his girlfriend after holly had dropped a few hints, which included her telling him she wouldn't hold his hand unless he was her boyfriend. their cute puppy love relationship actually lasted for quite some time. by eight years old, the two "married" on the playground after he had given her a vending machine ring.
their elementary school puppy love grew into a more serious middle school relationship. although, holden spent a large amount of time with lucas, her main focus was on school and all of the activities she was involved in. she maintained perfect grades while still being involved in soccer, ballet and horseback riding. these over-achieving habits continued well into her high school years. in fact, once high school rolled around she began joining activities such as the school newspaper and student council. she had grown up working towards getting into harvard university. it was where she had wanted to go since she was four years old and her father had bought her a harvard hoodie. she and her mother watching gilmore girls only increased her want for this. it took until high school though, and the joining of these clubs, that holly finally figured out what it is that she wanted to do.
after being editor of the school newspaper, she decided that she definitely wanted to go into journalism. it was by far her favorite thing and she had every intent of doing that same thing for a career. holly and luke's relationship lasted through high school. despite not always having time for him, holly was very much in love with him. they both knew, though, that they were headed off to different colleges once the next year rolled around, so the two decided to put their relationship on hold until after college. the two still had until the end of summer together, but they had talked about it rather early to make sure they left things as good as possible. holden graduated as class president and at the very top of the class. she had gotten her acceptance letter to harvard and was rather excited to start college. lucas and holden spent the whole summer together, enjoying what were to be their last moments together for quite awhile. holden knew it was for the best and that she should focus on college. lucas would be off at yale and they wouldn't have much time together.
when fall rolled around holden said her good-byes to lucas and her family and headed off to harvard. it was everything she had hoped it to be and fit in rather well. she had gotten rather homesick quickly though. she talked on the phone to her mother almost every night. she called lucas as much as she could as well. they kept in touch with phone calls, texts, webcams, tweets, facebook, everything. she couldn't help but to miss him still. she went up to visit him a few times and he came to visit her a few times, but normally the two were far too busy to travel to see each other. they would meet up annually at the harvard vs. yale game and they were able to spend some time together during the summers too. although, they weren't dating holden still felt rather tied to him. she couldn't bring herself to really start a relationship with anyone else. during her time at harvard she only went on very casual dates and never started anything remotely serious with anyone.
after graduating top of her class at harvard, she returned home to new york city for a bit to find herself a job. she had hoped lucas would be there, but she knew better. he had taken a job in santa monica, all the way across the country. they had eaten lunch together the day he had given her the news. she of course, was happy that he had gotten a job, but it meant more time that they were apart. more time that they would have to start over if they ever were together again. she spent a few months in new york, interning at a few newspapers and spending lots of time with her newly graduated brother. it didn't take her too long to realize how much she missed having lucas around.
with that in mind, she began to look for jobs out west. when people asked her excuse was "i've never lived in california before." though, everyone who knew her well was quite aware that she was only moving there to be with lucas again. after quite a job search and many interviews, she finally landed a job. this job, however, wasn't really in her planned field. she had been looking for newspaper jobs, but had been offered the position of a television personality. she was offered her own hour on a local morning show. although she had never really been as into that type of thing as her mother had, she accepted the job and swiftly moved to santa monica. so now she's new to santa monica. she's a little bit terrified of her job, but she's accepting the challenge and she hopes to surprise lucas by showing up.

ROLEPLAY SAMPLErunning into cash beckett was never really a part of brynne's plan. although, she was never really one to plan things, meeting cash was always an accident. in fact their first meeting was even an accident. they had been five the first time they had met, brynne had been on vacation to her family's summer home in tuscany and the two had met near the small river that was now part of brynne's property. the next summer, the two had run into each other again, and the next and the next. then finally, the summer of brynne's fifteenth year, the two ran into each other again. this time, finding each other down by the seaside. after that summer-long fling, he had stolen her heart and moved away with his family. after that summer, she had never planned on seeing him again, but then again she hadn't really planned to have his child either. for awhile, cash had become nothing but a memory, a fond feeling to look back on, but every day when brynne woke up and spotted her daughter, half a moment was spent remembering him. memories, though, we're supposed to stay memories. after the first year with holly, brynne had little thought of ever seeing cash or telling him of holly. she had been doing fine on her own and it seemed easier not to think about the possibility of him one day coming around.
it was a casablanca moment though, an "of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walked into mine" kind of a moment that hit her when cash stepped through the door way of the inn. a glorious moment, yes, but also a completely terrifying moment. it was something she had never really planned to have to explain, something she hadn't prepared herself for. a flash of his smile and she was already caught up in that same feeling she had had when she was a teenager. the same silly feeling that put pterodactyls in her tummy. the few days that followed that moment left her under the same damn spell. she was already falling, already feeling the exact same as she had years ago, and that was what had led her to spill her secret to cash. the one thing that she never thought she'd have to explain. his reaction to finding out about holly had been far better than she had expected. she was terrified he'd hate her for it, but he had been perfectly fine with it all, well, at least he seemed to be fine with it, just a little shocked. it was arranging the meeting of cash and holly that as the newest issue. with everything going so well, it was probably about time for something bad to happen. normally, she was an optimistic person, but this, for some reason was making her rather sick to her stomach. worry, excitement, nerves, a terrible combination.
why she was so nervous, she wasn't sure. she knew both holly and cash well enough to know that the two would get along. she knew both of them were open minded and both of them were excited. it was highly unlikely things would go terribly wrong, but bee being the crazy protective mother she was had gotten herself so worked up to the point of nearly making herself sick. "calm down, momma," holly said, pressing both hands to brynne's cheeks. "you worry too much." she giggled. brynne couldn't help but lighten up a bit at that. holly's reassurance was all she really needed. "thanks, sweetie." bee said, laughing softly and pressing a kiss to holden's forehead before standing up. holden grinned and swiftly headed off to her room to grab some things. brynne, however, made her way downstairs to pick up the living room a bit. the room was already rather spotless, but her nerves were telling her otherwise. after rearranging the piece on the coffee table several times, she realized it was probably best if she just sat down and didn't touch anything. chill out, bee. chill out. she reminded herself yet again, taking a few deep breaths.
within a few moments, holly hurried down the stairs with a coloring book and a small box full of stuff in her hands. "d'you think he'll wanna color with me? " she asked excitedly, placing the box of stuff on the table. "i bet he will," bee said, a smile coming to her face as she noticed holly's excitement. "so, what's in the box?" she asked, raising her eyebrows and motioning to the box that holly had placed on the table. "raffie and crayons and my ballet trophy and my soccer pictures and my report card and that blue ribbon i got last year!" she said, rattling off everything she had put in the box. brynne looked a little confused. "why all that stuff?" she finally asked. i dunno, thought i should show him all the cool stuff about me. y'know, so he'll wanna be my dad..." holden explained, looking a little embarrassed. brynne couldn't help but to make the sort of motherly "awe" face at that. "sweetie.. he's gonna like you without all that stuff." she said. "hope so," holden muttered softly, taking a seat on the couch before looking to bee. "you sure he's coming?" brynne laughed a little, noticing holden starting to get a bit nervous. "look who needs to calm down now!" she said poking her tongue out at her. "he'll be here any minute." she explained, glancing at the clock before wrapping a reassuring arm around holden. holly took a deep breath, leaning lightly against brynne, now waiting.
a few minutes later, the doorbell rang. holden quickly sat up and looked to brynne. bee chuckled and took a deep breath before standing up. "i'll get it," she said, knowing it was probably better for the both of them for her to answer the door. holly needed a little time to compose herself, and cash didn't need the shock. brynne hurried to the door, opening it with a grin. seeing him there was rather reassuring. he could've easily blown the whole thing off, not shown up, but he came instead. it was one less thing to go wrong and one more thing to calm her down a bit. "ready?" bee asked, chuckling lightly at the question. obviously, no one was really ready for this kind of situation. after standing at the doorway with him for a few moments, she knew it was time to take him inside. she took his arm, leading him inside. "just remember, she's as nervous as you are." she whispered in his ear as they stepped into the room.
holden had moved from the couch, standing in place as they stepped into the room. her eyes instantly locked on cash, examining him. her face lit up a bit and a smile came to her face, much like a kid on christmas morning. "h-hi..." she said after a moment, her nerves being rather obvious in her shaky voice. she was excited though, that was obvious, but a little bit timid to the awkwardness of the situation. "i'm.. i'm holden.." she said, taking a few shy steps toward him. "y-you can call me holly..." brynne took a step back, just watching. there wasn't really much else she could do. she had prepared them both as much as she could by telling each about the other. now, all she could do was watch and pray things went well.
